"Reflections"
"Reflections" is a series of portrait paintings informed by interviews with breast-cancer survivors. For this project, five women posed for portraits which I painted from life. Through this work, I intentionally display how the physical changes a survivor endures affect both one's body-image and 'perceived' femininity. The five paintings I completed reflect the resilience of each woman, and her innate experience with the disease. I was compelled to choose breast cancer as my subject because of what I watched my mother endure during her breast cancer treatment over a decade ago.
